" Censored! (and I wasn’t even paying attention)

Sometimes during meetings people say things which are rather juicy. I calmly write it down, often suppressing a smile, and fairly trot back to the office to blog it all up.
Other times I’m half-asleep in meetings or doodling my favorite doodle — ski area trail maps — when suddenly my reverie will be broken and everyone in the room will have turned around to look at me, with someone invariably saying/commanding, “Don’t put that in the blog.” I perk up immediately, warn them with a shake of my pen, and wonder silently what the hell I just missed.
Such an episode occurred today. I was in the county commission drawing an especially brilliant map of a small ski area in Austria when my reporter’s radar picked up Commissioner Kathleen Driscoll saying, “Oh, I bet we will see that in the blog,” and Commissioner Greg Chilcott said, “Oh, I don’t think so.” Chilcott was the butt of a joke, I took it, told by Commissioner J.R. Iman, with his hometown being associated with the preponderance of a certain diminutive farm animal.
I sank back into mid-morning doldrums for a few moments only to be jolted upright again with this time the sheriff looking at me, saying, “And that better not go in the blog.” Everyone laughed.
What better not go in the blog, I wondered? I was able to piece together from my subconscious: the sheriff was joking about applying unused budget funds toward purchase of highly controversial surveillance equipment.

Through with my ski area picture, I began to take notes in earnest. Some minutes later commissioners voted 5-0 to approve filling four detention center positions."
